What are you doing at Harwell Open Day?

We are Clinical Scientists showing how physics and engineering is applied to medicine and how it forms the basis of all technical equipment in modern healthcare – from diagnosis to treatment.

How does it relate to you work?

We work in hospitals using, maintaining and developing some of the equipment we are showing you.  For example you  can scan our full term baby phantom with an Ultrasound scanner and see how ultrasound can bring objects alive

What is the take home message?

Healthcare is one of the most useful areas you can apply physics and engineering to!

How long did you take to prepare for Harwell Open Day?

We have been preparing for a few weeks but thankfully our professional body IPEM (the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine www.ipem.ac.uk) has some ready made activities and leaflets for these events.

Why are you taking part in Harwell Open Day?

Medical physics and engineering are such fascinating and useful areas and yet few people are aware of the impact they make on modern healthcare
