What are you doing at Harwell Open Day?

I will be in the Diamond Light Source Marquee running the Lego Exibit

How does it relate to you work?

I write software to help with the collection and analysis of data at Diamond. The Lego beamline is a simple representation of how our automated data collection and visualisation works. I also do a lot of work with public engagement, and having an example and portable beamline to take around to schools is always useful.

What is the take home message?

Working in a state-of-the-art scientific facility is an amazing job which I would recommend to anybody.

How long did you take to prepare for Harwell Open Day?

Not to long, as we do a lot of outreach all year round, but over the years I have spent a lot of time playing with Lego. All in all I have probably spend around 4 weekends designing and building the 2 Lego beamlines that I personally care for, and about a couple of days helping others with there versions of them.
